in those pictures none of the bolt holes for any of the tensioners line up with the same holes in the other pictures. I have also learned that the pictures in the Haynes book, at least for mechanical tensioners are horribly inaccurate. I had searched the internet high and low because I was scared of conducting experiments on the only vehicle I own, and I was desparate to know for sure whether it would work or not before I tried it. Also, I don't know of anyone who has ever tried using a different year tensioner in their Neon. I don't have anything scientific to base any of this on. I have several trips to make tomorrow and I'll post my findings at that time. But today I didn't hear even a hint of it even after the car had sat all day. The noise most prevalent in my engine bay though was a -clacking- sort of noise that one would associate with dry lifters.įor me the noise was the loudest when the car was first started, and would lessen slightly once it warmed up but would never really go away. I know many Neons have the infamous "piston slap" noise that I'm sure probably wont go away with a changing of a timing belt. is this sound anything similar to what you have ?
do you think it will go away once i do the timing belt ? mine is a 2000 with 88000mi on it. it sounds like a tapping sound that is more obvious when the car is reving down. My car has a lot of weird sounds coming out of the valvetrain.
